Spring 2024 State Testing Information

Concrete School District students will begin required state testing in February.

The state requires students in grades 3-8 and 10 to take the Smarter Balanced (SBA) or the Washington Access to Instruction and Measurement (WA-AIM) tests in math and English Language Arts (ELA). Students in grades 5, 8, and 11 will also take the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS).

These assessments provide an accurate and objective evaluation of a student’s progress and development toward college and career readiness benchmarks. They encourage critical thinking and problem-solving, essential skills for success in any future endeavor. Moreover, the test scores furnish educators and districts with valuable information that can be used to enhance the quality of education and improve the learning outcomes of our students.

Multilingual learners in Washington state are screened and tested annually using WIDA assessments

The SBA in math and ELA can be used to meet the graduation pathway requirement if a student scores a Level 3 or Level 4.

Recognizing Ms. Barb Pope’s Generosity: A Belated Thanks for the Electronic Reader Sign

This year, we have been able to efficiently share information with our families and community through the electronic reader board installed at the corner of Superior Avenue and Hwy 20, thanks to a generous donation from Mrs. Pope in memory of her late husband, Steven Eugene Pope.

Steven graduated from Concrete High School and, thanks to his hard work, received a full-ride scholarship to the University of Washington from Puget Sound Energy. He dedicated his career to PSE as an electrical engineer.

Mrs. Pope donated this sign to honor Steven’s legacy and to help us stay connected with our community while supporting our students. The sign features Steven’s favorite quote, “The value of education is beyond measure,” and is proudly displayed on our campus. We are incredibly grateful for Mrs. Pope’s thoughtful donation and excited about the positive impact it is already making by keeping everyone informed.

We also want to thank and recognize Hannah and Brad Gilbert, owners of Cascade Burgers, for allowing us to use space on their signposts for this electronic sign. Thank you, Hannah and Brad!
