Dear Parent/Guardian
The health and wellbeing of our students and staff continues to be our highest priority, Concrete Elementary School is closing to protect the health of our students and staff because of multiple COVID-19 cases at our school. We understand this may be a hardship for families and is disruptive to student learning. The health and safety of our students and staff must come first. We are working with Skagit County Public Health to investigate the cases and are consulting published guidance from Washington State Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
We will move to remote learning at the elementary on Wednesday October 20, 2021. We plan to stay remote through October 29, 2021. Our staff and students have been impacted significantly which has had a negative effect on our operations including instruction, transportation and support services. You will receive login and class schedule information from your child’s teacher no later than Tuesday evening. Students will receive a minimum of 70% of their classwork via Zoom from their individual teacher, with approximately 30% being assigned work. If your child was a close contact of a confirmed case, we will notify you with special instructions to keep your child home from all activities.
Even if your child was not identified as a close contact, you should watch for signs and symptom of COVID-19. These include fever or chills; cough; shortness of breath or difficulty breathing; unusual fatigue; muscle or body aches; headache; recent loss of taste or smell; sore throat; congestion or runny nose; nausea or vomiting; diarrhea. The average time after exposure before a person develops symptoms is about 5 days, but symptoms can appear anywhere between 2 and 14 days after exposure (the incubation period).
If your child develops any COVID-19 symptoms, contact your healthcare provider to get tested or go to the Skagit County Public Health drive-through testing site at the Skagit Fairgrounds. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 3p.m. to 7p.m. Information about testing through Skagit County Public Health can be found at https://www.skagitcounty.net/Departments/HealthDiseases/coronavirusdriveup.htm
Concrete School District will continue to monitor the information available and evaluate the impacts of COVID-19 on our local community. We will follow up with you if additional public health information impacts our re-opening date. Thank you for your patience as we respond to the daily challenges of COVID-19.
Sincerely,
Wayne Barrett
Superintendent
Concrete School District
