Dear Parents and Guardians of Concrete Elementary Grades K-1 Students:
It is my pleasure to share some good news from the Skagit County Health Department and the Concrete School District. Skagit County has seen a continued decline in the number of COVID-19 cases and has given us their approval to begin bringing back students to a face-to-face model. We will begin phasing in this process on October 5, 2020 by bringing in our Kindergarten and 1st grade students in a half-day format four days per week. Students will be scheduled in either an AM or PM slot Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Wednesday will be a remote learning day and deep cleaning day. Teachers will utilize Wednesday as a parent and student contact day monitoring progress and assisting families.
We will schedule K-1 siblings during the same times to avoid having students on different schedules. Mrs. Gallagher and the teachers will be working on schedules this week and will communicate groups when they are established. We will provide transportation, and all students will be screened before boarding the buses. Please make sure there is a guardian present at the bus pick up location in case the student is unable to attend due to temperature restrictions or illness. We believe it is imperative that we bring students in for instruction, but we must limit our class numbers as a result of the continued health guidelines. We plan to continue phasing in our return of other grade levels gradually with our goal of returning all students to a hybrid model, leading to an eventual full-day face-to-face model as health conditions permit.
I ask that you remain patient with us as we continue to transition to in-person learning. If your family is not comfortable having your students return to school at this time, you can continue with remote learning. Please let the elementary office know this choice as soon as possible.
We are excited to be able to offer our students and community good news about returning to in-person instruction. Please remember that all health guidelines will need to be followed including face coverings and social distancing. We prefer you send your child with their own face covering, but we also have many different face coverings to provide the best possible options for staff and students if needed.
Respectfully,
Wayne Barrett, Superintendent
Concrete School District
We plan to open in a hybrid AM/PM Model (see sample below).
We will continue with Concrete Virtual Academy as our consistent curriculum throughout this school year. When we return to in-person learning, we will use a more blended model with the CVA curriculum. It will look something like this:

Students need to bring with them to school each day:
- Chromebook (bag, cord, mouse, headphones)
- Supply box/pouch (ziploc bag works too) with pencils
- Water bottle (we are not using the drinking fountains)
- Backpack
If your family is not comfortable having your students return to school at this time, you can continue with remote learning. Please let the elementary office know this choice as soon as possible.
We will continue to monitor the transition from remote to hybrid for K-1 and start planning for transitioning for grade levels at a later date.
